Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@arise.tax if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Prices vary and a list of those can be found here.

Becoming a client at Arise Tax is simple. Here's how it works:

Step 1: Reach out. Give us a call at 260.357.5125, email us at info@arise.tax, or stop by our office at 127 S Randolph Street in Garrett. Let us know what you need help with — tax prep, bookkeeping, payroll, an IRS issue, or something else.

Step 2: Schedule a consultation. We'll set up a time to talk — in person, over the phone, or virtually if that works better for you. This is your chance to ask questions and make sure we're the right fit.

Step 3: Get set up in our secure client portal. We'll send you an invitation to our TaxDome Portal. This is where you'll safely upload documents, sign forms, and message us anytime. No need to mail paperwork or worry about email security.

Step 4: Send us your documents. Upload your tax documents, prior returns, or business records through the portal. Not sure what to send? We'll give you a checklist based on your situation.

Step 5: We get to work. We'll review everything, prepare your return or service, and reach out if we have questions. You'll be able to track your progress in the portal.

Step 6: Review, sign, and file. We'll walk you through your return or completed work, answer any questions, and once you approve, we'll file it or finalize it for you.

That's it. From your first call to filing, we make the process as smooth as possible — and you'll have a real person to talk to every step of the way.

Yes — handling IRS letters is one of the things we do best.

If you've received a notice from the IRS (or your state tax agency), don't panic and don't ignore it. Bring it to us as soon as possible. Most IRS letters have deadlines, and the sooner we respond, the more options you have.

Here's what we can help with:

  • Reading the letter and explaining in plain English what the IRS actually wants
  • Responding on your behalf so you don't have to talk to the IRS directly
  • Disputing errors if the IRS got something wrong
  • Setting up payment plans if you owe money you can't pay all at once
  • Requesting penalty relief (penalty abatement) when you qualify
  • Negotiating settlements through programs like Offer in Compromise
  • Stopping wage garnishments, bank levies, and liens before they cause more damage
  • Audit representation if the IRS is reviewing your return

What to do when a letter arrives:

  1. Don't throw it away or ignore it — even scary-looking notices often have simple solutions.
  2. Note the deadline on the letter.
  3. Call us at 260.357.5125 or email info@arise.tax and we'll let you know the next step.
  4. Bring the letter (and the envelope) to your appointment.

You don't have to face the IRS alone. We deal with them so you don't have to.

You work with the same person every time. At a chain, you might get a different preparer each year — sometimes someone who just finished a few weeks of training. At Arise Tax, you build a real relationship with us. We get to know you, your family, and your business, which means better advice and fewer missed opportunities year after year.

We're a year-round resource, not a seasonal storefront. Many chains close their doors after April 15th. We're here all year. Got an IRS letter in July? Starting a business in September? Need to plan ahead before December? Just call us.

We handle the complicated stuff. TurboTax works fine if your taxes are simple. But if you own a business, have rental property, work multiple jobs, owe back taxes, or got a letter from the IRS, software can't replace a real professional. We handle complex returns, IRS resolution, audits, and tax planning — things software simply can't do.

We actually represent you before the IRS. TurboTax can't call the IRS for you. A chain may charge extra or hand you off. We can speak to the IRS on your behalf, respond to notices, set up payment plans, and negotiate settlements — so you don't have to deal with them directly.

Personal service, not a script. Chains follow a checklist. We listen to your situation, ask the right questions, and look for deductions and strategies that fit you specifically. No upselling, no rushed appointments.

Local, not corporate. We live and work in your community. We understand local businesses, Indiana tax rules, and the people we serve. When you call, you get a real person — not a 1-800 number or a chatbot.

You're not just a number. At a chain, you're one of thousands of returns. At Arise Tax, you're a client we know by name.

Bottom line: If your taxes are simple and you don't mind doing it yourself, software works. But if you want peace of mind, expert guidance, and someone in your corner all year long, that's what we're here for.

Our approach to tax planning is personalized and tailored to each client's unique situation. We work closely with our clients to ensure that they are taking advantage of all available tax deductions and credits.

To make your appointment go smoothly, please bring the following (whatever applies to your situation):

For everyone:

  • A photo ID (driver's license or passport)
  • Social Security cards or ITIN letters for you, your spouse, and any dependents
  • A copy of last year's tax return (if you're a new client)
  • Bank account and routing number (for direct deposit of any refund)

Income documents:

  • W-2s from every job
  • 1099s (for contract work, retirement, interest, dividends, unemployment, Social Security, etc.)
  • Records of any other income (cash, rental, side business, gambling winnings, etc.)

If you own a home or property:

  • Mortgage interest statement (Form 1098)
  • Property tax bills
  • Records of home sales or purchases during the year

If you have a business or are self-employed:

  • Income records (invoices, 1099s, sales reports)
  • Expense records (receipts, mileage logs, bank/credit card statements)
  • Payroll records if you have employees

Deduction and credit documents:

  • Childcare expenses (with provider's name, address, and tax ID)
  • Tuition and student loan interest statements (1098-T, 1098-E)
  • Charitable donation receipts
  • Medical expense receipts (if they were significant)
  • Health insurance forms (1095-A, B, or C)

If you're dealing with the IRS:

  • Any letters or notices you've received
  • Prior IRS correspondence or payment records

Not sure if something matters? Bring it anyway. It's much easier for us to set aside what we don't need than to reschedule because something is missing.

If you have questions about your specific situation, give us a call at 260.357.5125 before your appointment and we'll let you know.
